After the food chain in A Little Blue Fly, Mathias Friman explores the vegetable kingdom telling of the life of a little seed that becomes a tree.
At first, I was a seed, a tiny little green seed… Swallowed by a bird, the little seed takes off, travels, and is then wrapped up in a little white package, ending up sown. The forest welcomes and protects it, and from a little seed, it becomes a stem, a plantlet… and grows. The life of a seed, which as time and seasons pass, changes names from plant to shrub, and, finally, to tree. All around it, nature follows its course, the sun and the storms, the forest animals, the old slanted tree on which a new sprout is born again.
Mathias Friman illustrates with poetry the never-ending renewal of nature in detailed contemplation of forest life. This is a beautiful picture book that teaches us to be amazed by our surroundings, and to learn to take care of them. The ending challenges the young reader, pointing him to the origin of all living things: being a seed, and then being born.
