Constance, papillon de son état, a du mal à commencer cette journée. Le bain est tiède, le nectar qu’elle boit tous les matins a un goût différent et sa tartine est évidemment tombée du mauvais côté. Elle adorerait pouvoir en rester là avec cette journée mais elle est attendue par ses collègues insectes. Constance est maquilleuse au théâtre des Coléoptères. Isidore, le pro du décor, lui demandera un coup de main, elle viendra aussi en aide à Lucienne, l’éclairagiste, et elle essaiera pour Germaine, la costumière, un costume de lapin…
Avec Constance on participe à l’agitation fébrile qui précède les représentations et, surtout, on comprend que faire des choses et se tourner vers les autres, se sentir utile et apporter sa pierre à un projet collectif donne une énergie folle et rend le monde plus doux.

Constance the butterfly didn’t start the day in the best way. Her bath is lukewarm, the breakfast nectar tastes different, and her toast fell on the buttered side. She would have loved for the day to be over
before it started, but her insect colleagues are waiting for her. Constance is a make-up artist at the Beetles Theatre. Isidorus, the stage designer, will eagerly ask her to give him a hand, just like Susan-
Lucy, the lighting designer. She will also help Bertha, the costume designer, and try for her a rabbit costume.
Constance under the spotlights invites the reader to witness the tense febrility that precedes a performance, tackling the world of theater and its various professions.
